American architecture became known for its development of dramatic skyscrapers in the 19th and 20th centuries. Frank Lloyd Wright developed the Prairie school, and the 21st century saw the advent of Deconstructivist architecture that engages the exterior and interior spaces of buildings in innovative ways.

This early architecture was as diverse as the settlers themselves, who included Spanish, English, Scots-Irish, Dutch, German, French and Swedish.
American Colonial Architecture in Modern Day America
Symmetrical facade, gable roof, and rectangular shape (like originals)
Two to three stories.
Brick or wood siding with simple and classical detailing (Not as plain as before)
Elaborate entrances, pillars, columns, dormers, and decorative shutters.
The ranch home is the one architectural style that is truly American. It gained its prominence in the American West, and is sometimes known as the California ranch. Today, ranch homes can be found in many communities. They are known for their single-floor layout and low roof lines.
The architecture of the United States demonstrates a broad variety of architectural styles and built forms over the country's history of over two centuries of independence and former Spanish and British rule.
